Finally, that cursed Doldrums is nothing but a bad memory! And as good news never comes alone, Alexia Barrier crossed the Equator at 11:30 PM, just a few minutes before celebrating her birthday.
What better gift for a sailor than to escape the hell of the Doldrums and cross into the southern hemisphere just before her birthday? In any case, Alexia Barrier will surely remember it for a long time! Now, the direction is the Cape of Good Hope, skirting the Brazilian coast before turning east in a few hundred miles.
“I can’t wait to be on port tack for 10 days. I’m going to start a scarf. I brought some knitting supplies in case I get bored. But right now, I’d rather be bored than living through what I am currently experiencing,” explained Alexia just before leaving the intertropical convergence zone. And her wish is going to be fulfilled since the weather should be much milder at least until the end of the week!
With summer temperatures, it’s time to regain strength to tackle the second part of the race still led by Charlie Dalin, who is a little over 2,300 nautical miles ahead of Alexia. With winds of around twelve knots, TSE-4myplant can finally resume its forward journey at a steady pace.
At the last check-in, Alexia Barrier is leading the small group of stragglers and occupies the 25th place in the ranking. She now has 39,380 kilometers remaining before reaching the finish line.
