Vendée Globe: Alexia Barrier Sets Off on Her Adventure

Latest News

The starting signal for this 9th edition of the Vendée Globe was given at 2:20 PM. Despite a slight delay due to fog, Alexia Barrier and the 32 other skippers are sailing through the Bay of Biscay.

The adventure of a lifetime! Despite the absence of the public at the start due to health conditions, the sailors are setting off on a new solo, non-stop round-the-world race. This is the case for the local participant, Alexia Barrier on her monohull TSE-4myplanet, who has been qualified for the biggest race in the world for over a year now.

It’s off on a journey of 24,296 miles or 45,000 km in a little over 90 days of racing. For Alexia, the goal isn’t to win the race but rather to perform well while helping science in the discovery of places still little studied by researchers.

For now, the fleet is heading west to encounter a first front as early as tonight. At the latest checkpoint, Alexia was in 32nd place, 67 kilometers behind the race leader Jérémy Beyou.

We wish fair winds to the Maralpine whose journey we will closely follow.
