The days roll on and resemble each other in both bad and good times. After experiencing four days of calm seas at the beginning of the week, the gruppetto is once again heading south.
Alexia Barrier had her second good day aboard TSE-4myplanet. With an average speed of 22 km/h over the past 24 hours, the Maralpine is making steady progress with the goal of crossing the Doldrums in the best possible way. This crossing is set to take place overnight under conditions that are not the best recorded in recent years but should be strong enough to attempt a strategic move and gain a few positions.
“I am happy to be where I am: the West option was good, I didn’t doubt it. It’s important when you make a choice, you have to see it through to the end. My right hand is swollen and my arms are a bit stiff because of the physical efforts. So, I’ve taken care of myself, and it worked well. I’m feeling great now, I can’t wait for daylight to come. I’m making good progress, between 13 and sometimes 20 knots while surfing. I can’t wait to see the flying fish again,” Alexia shared yesterday before approaching the Doldrums.
Now, the competitors of this ninth edition of the Vendée Globe are in full speed mode, closing the gap on the group ahead of them, which is approximately 500 kilometers (about 275 nautical miles or 24 hours behind).
Alexia Barrier now has 41,150 kilometers left to reach Les Sables d’Olonne.
