Vendée Globe: On the way to the Equator

Latest News

It is very close, just a little over ten miles away, the famous Equator, which was already crossed last November 25th. On the way there, 17 days were needed to journey into the south from the departure at Les Sables d’Olonne.

This is approximately the time aimed for by the TSE-4myplanet team to conclude this beautiful journey full of emotion. But now it is crucial to skillfully navigate the Doldrums. Located between 5° and 10° north and 5° and 10° south, the Doldrums is a still dreaded zone for sailors competing in races. It’s a place where the convergence of two air masses either creates chaotic conditions or a dead calm lasting several days.

Currently, the conditions seem manageable with winds around 10 knots and a large dead calm to the East that must be avoided at all costs to not relive the same events as last weekend. It was a challenging period to navigate despite the beauty of the landscapes. “There are moments when I laugh all by myself on the boat, there are still moments when I scream, I cry, there are still difficult phases. Most of the time I’m smiling and things go well, my boat is doing well, and so am I. So, it’s quite nice to sail off the coast of Brazil, the conditions are good, the boat isn’t hitting hard, it’s quite pleasant. I know that after the equator it will be a bit tougher, but there won’t be many miles left, so it’ll be alright,” says Alexia, who regularly expresses her wish to reunite with her loved ones on land.

This longing awakened when passing Cape Horn before the eyes of some family members and her team, who had given her a lovely surprise. See you in about fifteen days to experience some wonderful reunions!
