Villefranche: The Naval Flower Battle, an event since 1902

Latest News

A fleet of “pointus” all adorned with local flowers, coming mainly from Villefranche but also this year from neighboring towns, will parade in the port of la Santรฉ.

After passing in front of the public, the navigators in costume will walk along the docks and throw their flowers to the spectators … the battle begins!

Every year, nearly 7,000 people crowd onto the docks to see this unusual spectacle.

The Combat Naval Fleuri is an opportunity to show the people of the Riviera and tourists these boats that are part of the heritage.

The “pointus” (typical boats from the south of France) are passed down from generation to generation as a heritage of a unique culture. And even though they are no longer intended for their original purpose, fishing, they have become a wonderful tool for transmitting the Mediterranean spirit.

To decorate these 20 “pointus,” no less than 30,000 carnations, 600 kg of mimosas, 900 bouquets, and 80 garlands of boxwood will be needed.
