The Prime Minister (Mr. Edouard PHILIPPE) was expected yesterday morning in Nice alongside the Minister of the Interior (Mr. Gérard COLLOMB) for a day dedicated to security, remembrance, education, and research.

The visit began early yesterday morning at 8:15 in the Moulins district with a presentation of the urban renewal program.

The ministers went to meet the police officers involved in the implementation of the everyday security police (PSQ).

Security closer to the population. The Moulins district, like the Ariane district, is one of the 30 priority neighborhoods that will benefit from dedicated police reinforcements.

Eric Ciotti chose not to be present. He explained in a statement: “The everyday security police seems to me like a mere PR stunt and not a solution to tackle the security challenge in our country.”

A republican welcome was given to the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior at the Saint-Augustin Police Station. After meeting with officers and field agents and a brief press briefing, they headed to the Masséna villa.

A moment of remembrance and reflection took place during the laying of the traditional wreath of flowers in tribute to the “angels of the promenade,” in the presence of the victims’ families.

The Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior then met at the Nice city hall with economic and social forces and local elected officials. During his address, the Prime Minister praised the dynamism and resilience of the people of Nice.

A solemn speech was delivered before a large gathering organized by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who took the opportunity to highlight his new doctrine “post-ideological pragmatism”:

“You are former mayors, and like all the mayors of France, you have faced the reality of the lives of the French and the territories daily, and its corollary, the need for efficiency and solutions.”

Christian Estrosi expressed his “happiness with the appointment of Mr. Edouard PHILIPPE at Matignon.” He stated that with the Prime Minister, “the voice of the territories is heard.” Christian Estrosi is thrilled to see his Metropolis “make a prodigious leap forward, thanks to this government that supports it.”

For instance, he did not hesitate to “reach into the wallet” to help realize the future Saint-Roch police headquarters, with funding of about 50 million euros for a total estimated cost between 100 million and 140 million euros.

The Prime Minister declared himself amazed by how Nice has recovered from the terrible July 14th attack.

For the Prime Minister, Nice is, above all, a city that faces problems head-on and finds solutions to move forward. A city capable of proposing future projects. Edouard Philippe wishes to draw inspiration from this example for the France of tomorrow.

At the end of the speech, symbolically, the Prime Minister was presented with cufflinks bearing the emblem of the eagle of Nice.

The visit then continued with a short walk in old Nice.

The opportunity for the Prime Minister (Edouard PHILIPPE) to enjoy a quick walkabout at the Cours Saleya market. A warm and friendly atmosphere under the sun.

After a quick lunch at the prefecture, the Prime Minister, escorted by the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Higher Education and Research, went to IMREDD.

Ministers came to lay the first stone of the Mediterranean Institute of Risk, Environment, and Sustainable Development (Imredd). In 2019, the campus will bring together researchers, teachers, students, and company employees to invent applications for the sustainable city of the future.
IMREDD is one of the flagship projects of the future Joia Méridia district.
