A planet to discover, a billionaire hero, an interstellar journey, Vital Trap, a refreshing novella presented by Nice-Premium.

piege_vital.jpgVital Trap is a short story by Alain Le Bussy, a Belgian author of numerous science fiction and fantasy texts, including the Aqualia cycle. The narrator, a billionaire who doesn’t really abide by the laws of the planets he visits, is on the run. He wants to buy time for his lawyers to resolve his various troubles and heads to a low-attraction planet, Muldson. From the first days on this new world, he feels something strange: Muldson is an unpretentious agricultural colony that keeps itself quite distant from all relations with foreign populations. Alan embarks on an exploration of the surrounding countryside.

Alain Le Bussy offers us an entertaining interstellar voyage where the hero becomes aware of a certain value of life. We get carried away by the narrative, despite some passages that are a bit more difficult to read, eager to understand, to uncover the secret. Although the theme is rather classic, the author manages in just a few pages to create a galaxy, a monetary system, and perfectly credible laws. It’s coherent, and the reader can dive into it without issues.

Vital Trap is a funny, pleasant novella, in the vein of humanistic science fiction. Despite some shortcomings, the short story format allows for the discovery of this refreshing story, which would have struggled to hold up in a larger format like a novel; and you’d wish for the hero’s invention to one day become part of our lives!
