For the 21st day of the Ligue B, Nice-Volley hosted Cambrai. A match to bounce back after two consecutive defeats. However, Mladen Kasic’s players were unable to avoid defeat against Cambrai, losing 3 sets to 1 (23-25 / 27-29 / 26-24 / 26-28).
With Cambrai’s visit, Mladen Kasic’s men were hoping to gain confidence after two consecutive defeats, at home against Canteleu (2-3) and especially last Saturday on the court of Plessis-Robinson with a severe 3-0 loss. Before the match, the team from the north had a 4-point lead over their evening opponents.
A victory for Cristian Bartha’s teammates and the Nice team would move closer to the 7th place, occupied by… Cambrai. So no mistakes tonight but, as Sabine Paturel sings so well, the Nice team did not leave Salle Palmeira without these famous “Mistakes”. Sadly, fortune did not favor Nice-Volley.
The players from Nord-Pas-de-Calais began the hostilities. They took the first two sets by very tight scores (25-23 / 27-29). A superb show of character by the Aiglons to get back in the game (26-24). And what can be said about the third set, as contested as a tie-break between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, ending 28 to 26 in favor of the northern team. Indeed, Ratko Peris’ protégés left Salle Palmeira with victory (25-23 / 29-27 / 24-26 / 28-26).
The Nice team remains in 8th place (30 pts) before Saturday’s matches. With safety long assured and the playoff spot for promotion to Ligue A out of reach, Nice-Volley’s leaders can now focus on the next 2013-2014 season. But before enjoying their well-deserved vacation, the players still have 5 matches to play. The next one is a trip to Martigues before hosting the bottom team, Saint-Brieuc, in two weeks. As for Cambrai, with this victory, they are more than ever in position for the Ligue B final phases.
