It was the showdown match between Nice and Avignon. The team from the French Riviera was playing all out to catch up to the team from Vaucluse in the standings, while the latter had promotion within reach and didn’t want to let it slip away.
But on the field, we only saw one team, and unfortunately, it wasn’t Nice!
Overpowered, Nice could only offer their opponents an honorable defense and a serious reaction in the third set. For the rest of the match, it was a one-sided show by the team from Vaucluse, who are now just one victory away from direct promotion.
The schedule is favorable for the players of President Griguier, as they will travel to Saint-Brieuc against a team that has already been relegated. They will need to show dedication and seriousness in order to participate in the play-offs that will determine the team which, barring surprises, will accompany Avignon to the LNA next season.
Last night’s match at the Palmera arena was lackluster, such was the superiority of the evening’s visitors.
The alarm has now been sounded for the men of Croatian coach Mladic. Let’s hope it is heard and can serve as a spark for the end of the season, where any mistake will be severely punished.
Nice Volley can no longer afford any errors if they don’t want to miss this last step, the real goal of the season. This is the only lesson to be learned from this evening.
