The matches for Nice Volleyball Club follow one another and look similar. By easily defeating Toulouse 3 sets to 0, the yellow and blue team sends a message to the entire Ligue A. NVB is on a series of four consecutive victories in the championship. They jump up two places in the standings, becoming provisionally sixth, pending the match between Nantes Reze and Chaumont.
The Azureans are unbeaten since the beginning of 2019, allowing them to reach the qualifying spots for the playoffs. They are more ready than ever to fight.
A first set without difficulty
Mladen Kasic’s men did not want to let the Toulouse players get into the match. Thanks to an unyielding defense, NVB had up to a nine-point lead (21-12). In attack, the Nice team blocked the opposing attackers twelve times compared to only two for Toulouse (set ended 25-17).
A closely contested set
It was in the second set that the 480 spectators in the Giamarchi hall came alive. Toulouse took the lead for the first time at 10-11 with a powerful smash by Danny Demyanenko.
A few minutes later Nice thought they had broken away (21-19), as captain Zeljko Coric rallied the crowd. Nevertheless, the spirited Toulouse side allowed them to come back to tie at 24, and the set needed a two-point difference to be decided. The Eagles secured this crucial set after a contentious action at the net. The referees resorted to video review. The final call favored NVB, leading the numerous supporters to rise in unison (set ended 26-24).
Relentless Attack
Robin Overbeeke’s serves crushed Toulouse. He compiled four successive aces, delivering a devastating 8-0 lead. Their opponents couldn’t respond to this rousing start to the set (set ended 25-15).
NVB was expeditious last night, with the match concluding in 1 hour 25 minutes. For the 17th matchday, Nice will face Cannes on Friday, February 8 for the Azurean derby.
