Nice Volley-Ball was already back this Wednesday evening in the Marmara SpikeLigue. For the 14th matchday, the Eagles hosted Saint-Nazaire, a team that is competing at the top of the league.
For their first match of the year, Nice Volley-Ball suffered a heavy defeat at home. Against a Saint-Nazaire team that was fourth in the standings before the match, Nice was not the favorite. The reason being, the team from the Alpes-Maritimes had lost their last three games in a row.
The start of the match quickly turned to the visitors’ advantage. Quickly trailing by two points, Nice stayed in contention for the first fifteen serves before completely collapsing. They conceded five consecutive points twice at the end of the first set (12-25).
The second set was more closely contested. Rodney Ah-Kong and his teammates tried to recover as best as they could. But midway through the set, it happened again. Saint-Nazaire opened up a five-point lead. A lead that the Eagles couldn’t bridge (20-25).
The match was going poorly and Saint-Nazaire seemed determined to finish it off quickly. And they made it clear from the beginning of the third set, which, without giving away any secrets, would be the last. Leading by nine points halfway through the set, there was nothing that could be done. The gap between the two teams was too large (20-25).
Three quick sets and the game was over. Fabrice Chalendar’s men, who was recently appointed as the team’s coach, will now have to regroup on Saturday in Poitiers at 7:30 PM. A match that, once again, will not be easy to handle.
