In sports (all disciplines combined), it is known that if the results are not there, someone has to be blamed (or presumed to be so), and the simplest solution is to fire the head coach!
“It was clear we had to change the coach,” stated President Alain Griguer. So, after two disappointing seasons, farewell to the Croatian Ratko Peris and welcome to former French international Rafael Redwitz, who has signed on for two seasons and was introduced yesterday.
“Rafa is thus starting his transition to coaching with Nice Volley Ball. He aims to develop an ambitious sports project over several seasons by expanding the staff around the professional team,” added the president of the Nice club.
After a globe-trotting career, Rafael Redwitz finished his playing days in the Italian championship, in Ravenna. For him, it will be a direct leap from the field to the bench with a return to the big stage of Ligue A and at a club with limited financial means.
“A great project awaits me, I’ve enjoyed my career immensely,” confides the 2008 Ligue A MVP, who also competed in the Euro 2013 with the French team (finishing 5th). “But now, it’s time. I’ve had the good fortune to be able to choose my exit,” he declared with a beaming smile.
In his role, he will be assisted by two assistants: Malik Wattelot and Fabien Chalendar.
