The Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzalez, and the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, provided an update on the measures to ensure the effective implementation of confinement directives.
“We are still witnessing too many gatherings, especially on the Promenade des Anglais, Avenue Jean Mรฉdecin, or in certain neighborhoods,” they declared in a joint statement.
The first consequence: “Faced with the non-compliance of a large number of people gathering on the beaches,” the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes has decided to close all beaches in the department.
Drones equipped with loudspeakers and national gendarmerie helicopters will fly over the City of Nice to call for the dispersion of observed gatherings.
The message is clear: “If the measures are not quickly and scrupulously followed, additional constraints might be implemented to ensure everyone’s safety,” concludes the statement.
