After their home draw (10-10) on Wednesday night against Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille, the Nice water polo players had to win against Marseille to claim a new French championship title. Unfortunately, Samuel Nardon’s men could not prevail against them (loss 12-9).
From the start of the match, the Marseille water polo players took the lead. By the end of the first period, they were ahead by one goal (5-4).
The second period mirrored the first. The Marseille team managed to maintain this slight lead to stay ahead at the break.
At halftime, the Nice team was trailing 7-6.
During the third period, the Nice water polo players were more decisive and incisive. Nonetheless, Samuel Nardon’s men could not equalize and remained behind by a single goal (9-8).
At the end of the match, the Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille’s players extended their lead, thanks in part to a goal from Thibaut Simon, leading 11-8. With a strong Marseille defense, the Nice team could not close the gap and ultimately lost 12 to 9.
With this victory against Olympic Nice Natation, Marseille retains its Pro A French championship title and secures its 36th national title.
For the Nice side, despite the loss, the season is still considered successful, highlighted by a victory in the Coupe de la Ligue.
