In collaboration with the MAMAC, take advantage of a guided tour providing insight into the intricate details of the extension of the Promenade du Paillon.
Nestled on the 4th floor of the Tรชte Carrรฉe, an exhibition has been set up to present what will be the season 2 of the Promenade du Paillon. The future โurban forestโ has many secrets to reveal to youโฆ After the exhibition, the tour begins with a short walk through the construction area to reach the MAMAC.
From there, you will head up to the roof to enjoy a sublime panoramic view. You can admire the various ongoing redevelopment projects: the repurposing of the Saint-Roch hospital into the Police Hotel, the redevelopment of Cassini Street which will benefit, among other things, from widened sidewalks and a bicycle lane, as well as the project for the extension of the Promenade du Paillon. Undoubtedly, the MAMAC stands as the cornerstone of these three major development projects in the Nice metropolitan area.
Focus on the future “urban forest” of Nice, a cultural projectโฆ
Portuguese architect Joรฃo Luรญs Carrilho da Graรงa and French architect, urban planner, and landscape architect Alexandre Chemetoff have partnered to design this project. It was unanimously approved by the city council notably for its environmental and cultural dimensions. Indeed, departing from the old directives of functional zoning was a key approach for this project. The focus is now on breaking down functional barriers and enhancing mobility!
The National Theater of Nice has not disappeared, it has been multiplied. The Franciscans’ hall in Old Nice and the La Cuisine hall in Nice West result from this intention to allow everyone to benefit from nearby cultural activities. Moreover, the MAMAC, a central piece of the project, will undergo significant revitalization. While highlighting it will involve encroaching on nearly 400 mยฒ of the Nucรฉra library, the revitalization is expected to increase museum attendance. The library will also be completely redesigned to enhance access for a larger number of visitors.
โฆ with an ecological ambition
Nearly 8 additional hectares will be added to the current 12 of the green corridor. The goal is to create a vast green lung right in the heart of the Azure capital. The approximately 1,500 trees to be planted have been selected for species adapted to the hot, sunny climate of the Mediterranean coast. Thus, the favored species are low in water consumption, provide good shade capacity, and also have a strong CO2 storage capacity.
According to various calculations, the “urban forest” could lower the ambient temperature by 2 to 3ยฐC. Moreover, this faรงade-to-faรงade project will come with widened sidewalks, bike lanes, and a priority bus lane. It should be noted that, eventually, all buses will be electric. Finally, the tour guides emphasize the local recycling of nearly 90% of the construction waste.
Become actors of your city
Because being informed is already taking action, these tours aim to inform residents about ongoing and future projects. Additionally, many resources are available online to visualize what this “urban forest” will look like. So feel free to visit the website of the Promenade du Paillon 2.
You can sign up for these tours every other Wednesday, until October, subject to availability. The experience is particularly interesting and enriching!
