Météo-France has issued an ORANGE alert bulletin for “thunderstorms” and “rain-floods”.
The rains are becoming heavy with the risk of thunderstorms in coastal areas and the first hills. Even though intensities decrease at times, this episode will persist until the night from Saturday to Sunday. During this event, rainfall amounts may reach 70 to 100 mm, but possibly up to 100-180 mm in the pre-Alps of Grasse, around 100-120 mm in the hills and midlands of Nice.
Aggravating factor: in connection with the very active Mediterranean episode taking place, waves from the Southeast are starting to increase this Friday afternoon in the Gulf of Lion. The sea will become rough next night, then spread towards the Provence coast and the Côte d’Azur by Saturday morning. The surf associated with these waves, combined with a significant rise in sea level (storm surge), could cause submersion in the low-lying parts of the coast.
Alpes Maritimes coast: the risk period is Saturday from 9 AM to at least 4 PM.
