The storm named “ALEX” will form at sea this evening in the west of the country, with gusts potentially exceeding 140 km/h during the next night. Mรฉtรฉo France specifies that special attention will be paid to the risk of heavy stormy rains in the Southeast.
The prefecture has already announced the closure of schools for tomorrow (Friday, October 2).
The Alpes-Maritimes department will be placed under an orange alert for rain and flooding in the coming hours until the following evening. An alert that could even evolve into a red alert during the day, depending on the intensity of the storm “Alex” tonight. Severe thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind are expected to hit Nice on Friday. A risk of “submersion waves” alert is also not excluded.
As a consequence, all schools, colleges, and high schools are ordered to close their doors for the day. School transport will also be canceled.
In a statement, the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture announced that “the expected rainfall totals for the episode until Saturday morning are about 100 to 150mm over large areas with locally 200 to 250mm.”
The disturbance associated with the #StormAlex will bring substantial rainfall totals in Brittany (40/80mm in 24h, and even 70/150 mm over the next 72h).
