Mixed fortunes for the Nice women’s teams on this Wednesday traditionally dedicated to the Coupe de France.
The handball players will head to Paris for the cup, but the basketball players fall to the defending champions, Montpellier.
In handball, the final four of the 2016 Women’s League Cup is set. This Final Four will take place on March 26 and 27 in Trรฉlazรฉ, near Angers. Nice, who won in Nรฎmes (31-24), will be part of it.
Facing a Nรฎmes team weakened by injuries, the Nice players perfectly seized their opportunity. Led by a dazzling trio of Lacrabรจre โ Knustdottir โ Rocha (editor’s note: who scored 21 goals between them), OGC took control of the match from the 1st minute and never let go. Thanks to a 6-0 run between the 15th and 20th minutes of play, Sรฉbastien Gardillou’s girls returned to the locker room with a comfortable lead. (11-15)
Half-time did not change much for the Nรฎmes players. Despite a burst of pride at the start of the second half, they never managed to genuinely threaten Clรฉopatre Darleux’s teammates. Performing well last night with 16 saves, the international goalkeeper dashed the last hopes of the Gard team with some signature saves.
On the basketball side, in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France, the defending champions, Lattes-Montpellier, confirmed their status as favorites at home by defeating Nice (73-58).
The evening’s showcase turned one-sided in favor of the home team. The Gazelles quickly took charge of the game. After a balanced first half, led by their captain Gaรซlle Skrela (21 points, 7 rebounds in 30′), the BLMA broke away. Only Anderson (12 points) managed to hold her own for the Nice team.
