Weighing of the Yellow Coins: a meager harvest

Latest News

The weighing of the Yellow Coins piggy banks took place on Tuesday, February 4, at Lenval Hospital in Nice. The 600 small boxes had been placed in the care and administrative services of the Pediatric Hospitals of the Lenval CHU as well as with the merchants on California Avenue. This fundraising helps finance projects to improve the comfort of children hospitalized in pediatric services.

“I declare the weighing of the Yellow Coins open!” was heard in the hall of the Lenval Hospital in Nice, in the presence of Maurice Alberti, Municipal Councilor, Marc Lanteri, Director of the Bank of France, and Marine Corbucci, Deputy General Director of the Lenval Foundation. Four weighings later, the weight is revealed: 55.90 kilograms*. A meager harvest when compared to the 94 kilograms in 2014.

“Bernadette Chirac and Christian Karambeu launched the Yellow Coins 2015 operation on January 7. But this date marked the first day of the attacks that bloodied the country. In terms of media coverage, the operation took a backseat. Consequently, the start was slower. This explains the decrease,” explained Maurice Alberti, Municipal Councilor delegated to charitable works and community life.

“This event is important. Beyond what it allows to accomplish at the request of the hospital staff, it is a citizen and civic action. At a time when children are being asked to make a special effort to embrace the values of the Republic, they demonstrate the most beautiful of the three values of our motto: fraternity,” he added.

To make up for this delay, Yellow Coins is organizing a new event* on Saturday, February 7, starting at noon, at the Palais de la Méditerranée. The program includes sports activities, games, shows, and concerts. Surprise guests have been invited, including a young singer whose name starts with the letter M… Suspense!
