Proposed by the Association La Gamelle, which since its inception in Nice, in 2005, has been working to promote and enhance urban culture in the PACA region, the 40th anniversary of the ZULU NATION will be celebrated.
The evening organized at Sézamo is therefore an opportunity to pay tribute to all those who kept this culture alive yesterday and continue it today, always with the same commitment.
Welcome to the Zulu Nation birthday! Respect Peace Unity Havin’ Fun Knowledge…
In 1973, the Universal Zulu Nation, carrying the message of hip-hop, was created in a New York ghetto under the name The Organisation by a former gang member: Afrika Bambaataa.
Its goal? To offer a pacifist alternative in the poor neighborhoods of the American capital then controlled by gangs. Or more concretely: to turn criminal evenings into friendly parties of music and dance. It is under the influence of the film Zulu by Cy Endfield, recounting the heroic struggles of a South African tribe against the English colonizers, that Afrika Bambaataa decided in 1975 to name his organization Zulu Nation.
Gradually, the movement gained momentum all around the world. Its members, called the Zulus, express themselves through dance, deejaying, graffiti, or mceeing. They are the ones who gave birth to hip-hop culture, transmitting their philosophy, based on success, peace, wisdom, understanding others, and respectful behavior.
This event will be hosted by the president of Zulu Nation France, the “GRAND MASTER” DEE NASTY on the turntables, who will cover the 40 years of the movement, from its creation to the present day. With the exceptional presence of rapper and beatmaker MEDOUZE and many other surprises planned in the program, allowing for the presentation of the diverse aspects and local actors of urban culture.
