For nine years, the European International Training Center has organized, in partnership with the City of Nice, “The Discussions on European Identity,” which offers debates on European identity.


This year, these discussions will be held on Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28, focusing on the theme “What European Identity in 2015?”

This event gathers renowned researchers each year who deliver their reflections on the foundations of Europe and share their points of view.

Program of Activities:

Monday, April 27 at 10 a.m. at the Forum Jorge François (beneath the Saint Pierre d’Arène Church):

“Secularism and European Identity” by Jean-Antoine GIANSILY, Vice-President of the CIFE (France)

“The European Defense Identity: Death of a Myth” by Claude NIGOUL, former director of the European Institute of International Studies, special advisor at the European International Training Center.

“From Security in Europe to the Europe of Security” by François DIEU, Professor of Sociology at the University of Toulouse I, Director of the Center for Studies and Research on the Police (France)

“What Organization for Europe’s Security and Defense. What Defense Means for the European Identity” by Michel HERMANS, Political Scientist, Professor at the University of Liège. (Belgium)

“The European Identity in the Jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights” by Anatole KOVLER, Former Judge at the European Court of Human Rights, advisor at the Constitutional Court of Russia (Russia)

“European Identity and the Committee of the Regions” by Elena CARANTONA ALVAREZ, Advisor on European Affairs for the regional government of the Principality of Asturias, former Regional Minister of Finance (Spain)
