What future for the Victorine studios?

Latest News

Eric Garandeau, President of the CNC, personally handed over the report on the future of the Victorine Studios to Christian Estrosi yesterday, in the presence of the members of the “Victorine Committee”.

After the city took back control in November of the operation of the Victorine studios (which cover an area of 6,000 m2), the Municipality is launching major efforts to revive the site with a prestigious past.

This morning, the “Victorine Committee” gathered within the Victorine Studios, in the presence of Eric Garandeau and committee members Daniel Benoin, Raphael Benoliel, John Bernard, Véronique Cayla, Costa Gavras, Alain Kruger, Alexandre Michelin, and Iris Knobloch.

“Very rich proposals have been put forward based on in-depth work on the extraordinary history of the Victorine,” declared Christian Estrosi, addressing the press invited for the occasion. Clearly defined choices and a strategic positioning are required.

The goal is to make the Victorine:

  • a place focused around its core business (cinema, series, advertisements)
  • studios positioned in the innovation sector (virtual reality, video games).
  • open to the public (preserving the cinematographic activity)
  • a driving force for the territory’s development project
  • creation of a Victorine companions’ school focused on film industry trades
  • a Victorine that competes internationally, becoming number 1 in France

Eric Garandeau suggests examining the possibility of available land in the Metropolitan area to expand. To act more quickly, he wishes to examine the conditions of an alliance with the Provence studios in Martigues, “which are totally complementary, as strongly demonstrated with arguments in this report”.

Christian Estrosi stated his desire to receive a business plan to convince partners to financially support them.

Wait and see, as the English would say.
