It’s on, the race for bargains is definitely launched to the great delight of thousands of people from Nice in search of the current best deals.
Four busy weeks will transform businesses and enterprises on the Côte d’Azur into a gigantic clearance sale offering unsold winter season items at prices beating any competition.
In Marseille, six weeks will ultimately be granted to local merchants to compensate for the loss of earnings inherent to the RTM strike that paralyzed the city for nearly 50 days.
A same request for the tramway project
“It would only be fair if we (the merchants of Nice) could also benefit from this measure. The tramway construction works have clearly led to a loss in our turnover, and an additional two weeks of sales could help us cover this deficit.”
The opinion of Pierre, a merchant on a major avenue in Nice, seems to be shared by all his neighbors and colleagues who have many other questions: “Why in Marseille and not in Nice? Who decided to extend the sales period in Marseille? Why has no one taken this initiative in Nice?”
On further reflection, it would have been quite logical for the merchants of Nice to also benefit from this exemption obtained by the Regional Prefect to compensate for the losses due to the construction of their city’s future tramway.
At a time when the Minister of Economy, Mr. Thierry Breton, suggests increasing the frequency of sales, why not hope that one of our local elected officials would take up the cause to win these additional two weeks that would certainly satisfy a multitude of local merchants and businesses.
So, ladies and gentlemen of the elected office, who will take this on?
