What is the best location for Bernar Venet’s Nine Oblique Lines? The proposals from the Nice socialists!

Latest News

The sculpture “The Nine Oblique Lines,” currently positioned on the site of the former SULZER parking lot, will need to be relocated to allow for the construction of a future underground parking area with 450 spaces planned at the same location. Once the SULZER parking is completed, Christian Estrosi wishes to reinstall the sculpture in its current location, shifting it to the left to make it visible from Charles de Gaulle Square.

The Socialists of Nice had already contested the Mayor’s choice during the inauguration of “The Nine Oblique Lines” by the President of the Republic during his visit to Nice on May 31, 2010. For the Socialist leader Patrick Allemand: “This operation cost 200,000 euros! This waste is even more unforgivable as Christian Estrosi knew very well, even before its installation, that he would have to move the artwork.” The PS opposes it and proposes two alternative solutions! (see below)

According to Patrick Allemand: “We believe that our solutions are better compared to those Christian Estrosi wants to implement. Our contribution is in line with the responsibility of an opposition force that makes proposals. We will see the Mayor’s response. And finally, why not ask the people of Nice to express their opinions?”

Northern location of the Coulรฉe Verte

*It’s a choice that presents coherence*:

The monumental arc by VENET, in the Albert 1st garden, would open the Coulรฉe Verte, and The Nine Oblique Lines would close it on the way to the MAMAC.

Other sculptures by other artists could later be positioned and restore the initial vocation of the Coulรฉe Verte as a Promenade. Is SULZER the ideal location for VENET’s work?

Southern location of the Promenade des Anglais

*It’s a choice that highlights the work*:

Visible from the NCA airport to Cap de Nice. Easily highlighted at night with appropriate lighting. The work faces the Centenary monument and reflects Nice’s progress towards modernity. An image of Nice open to the sea, turned towards others.
