When one person’s misfortune becomes another’s happiness… After Eduardo Camavinga’s recent injury, Khéphren Thuram has been chosen by Didier Deschamps to replace him.
At 22 years old, the younger brother of Marcus Thuram, who is also selected, is making his second appearance in the French national team. A key player in the midfield orchestrated by Francesco Farioli, the 1.92-meter athlete is capable of outplaying any opposing squad, both with his physique and technical skills. Although still inconsistent, his play sometimes lacks precision, as seen in the match against Montpellier last weekend.
A potential starter?
Along with defense, the midfield is arguably the most competitive position in the French national team. From Antoine Griezmann to Adrien Rabiot, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Youssouf Fofana, and even Boubacar Kamara, not to mention Aurélien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, both on the injury list, the competition seems particularly fierce for a player just emerging from the youth squads. Similar to Todibo, it’s clear that Thuram won’t have many minutes to play, but if the opportunity arises, he must prove capable of fulfilling a backup role ready to be effective when he steps onto the field.
The match between France and Gibraltar, part of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, will take place at the Allianz Riviera this Saturday, November 18 (8:45 PM). The French team will then travel to Athens to face Greece next Tuesday (8:45 PM).
