The health lockdown related to the Covid-19 epidemic lasted nearly two months, from March 17 to May 11, and profoundly altered the living conditions of the French people.

INSEE revisited the situation and offers us, through the results, the opportunity for some personal reflections and comparisons.

A third of employed people experienced an activity restriction likely to reduce work income, with 27% undergoing periods of technical or partial unemployment. 34% of employed persons worked remotely, while 35% continued to go to their workplace. Additionally, 35% of parents with a child under 14 experienced difficulties in ensuring their child’s educational follow-up.

20% of individuals stated that their household’s financial situation had deteriorated. The negative consequences of the lockdown were more frequent for people with modest incomes, who also found this period more challenging, and for women.

Women, more than men, reduced their professional activity and devoted time to their children, while also often juggling more than 4 hours of work and more than 4 hours with their children daily.
