What will happen in Contes in 2010?

Latest News

F. Tujague: We wish to continue the development of the commune of Contes, despite the uncertainty and concerns related to the reform of local authorities and the abolition of the professional tax. The museum will be completed in the fall and will open its doors in the spring of 2011. The organ of the Church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, currently under rehabilitation, will return to its original location by mid-2010.

Lettre du Paillon: You also mentioned the construction of social housing?
F. Tujague: In a few weeks, the nine social housing units on avenue Céleschi will welcome their first tenants. 2010 will also see progress in the program of twelve new social housing units as well as the development of ten communal housing units in Sclos, in the village, and on place Allardi.

Lettre du Paillon: At the Binet house as well?
F. Tujague: Indeed, there will be two. The work has been entrusted to young people training in the building trades under an agreement with the SARL “La CLEF 06.” On this site, the Training House of the Pays des Paillons, managed by La CLEF, will also launch a project to create, in collaboration with the wine and grape museum, a collection of grape varieties from our department.

Lettre du Paillon: An extraordinary project is announced that will certainly change the village’s life?
F. Tujague: Indeed, the municipal council has decided to construct, between place Ollivier and the place of the War Memorial, an inclined elevator which will be accompanied by the redevelopment of the Stalingrad stairway. This project, which is part of a sustainable development objective, will make it possible to secure and revitalize the village. Parking spaces on place de la République and at the War Memorial will then be eliminated. Place Clémenceau will become a pleasantly landscaped meeting place.

Lettre du Paillon: Won’t this cause some inconvenience?
F. Tujague: No, I believe, on the contrary, these developments will considerably improve the quality of life in the village. Today, there is a source of insecurity with chaotic parking, which greatly hinders the fire department if they have to intervene urgently, especially at night. We will still have the ability to cross the village and stop, but parking will only be allowed in well-defined areas, and hopefully, in the Riou parking lot, whose completion is still delayed by ongoing legal procedures.

Lettre du Paillon: Will the face of the Grave district also change?
F. Tujague: It is indeed one of the municipal goals. We are currently working on an urban renewal project. jpg_contes.jpgIt should include a new bus station, more parking spaces, rental and homeownership housing, commercial spaces, public use premises as well as significant pedestrian spaces, similar to what has just been done in the Miaglia district. This major urban renewal project aims to prioritize urban forms that use less space, are directly served by public transport, and promote the establishment of local shops and services. For the moment, the study is not finalized. Before making any decision, the project will be presented to the residents of Contes, and their viewpoint will be sought. The expansion of the Ollivier house, which will house commercial premises, is the first step in this development.

Lettre du Paillon: Any other projects?
F. Tujague: Sewer works, road repairs, the development of place de Sclos, the construction of a care facility for disabled adults supported by ADSEA in the La Tour district, the start-up of the rescue center, and the creation of agricultural farms in Sclos, in the Barella district, and at La Pointe by the community of communes. Not to forget the operation of the communal public services of water, sanitation, and school catering. Also, not forgetting the support of the rich associative life of our commune and the actions we will have to take to defend our territory and the prerogatives of the communes. A full year, in short.
