Until September 15, in the town of Tourrette-Levens, an exhibition titled “Art and the Circus” is on display at the cultural center.


The works presented in this exhibition come from the unique collection of Dr. Alain Frรจre, the current mayor of the town and artistic advisor of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival. This enthusiast has gathered costumes, posters, programs, and objects belonging to the circus world. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the works created by numerous artists, such as Picasso, Chรฉret, Chagall, and Duffy, alongside other lesser-known figures.

Indeed, the buzz of the circus has long inspired the work of artists, who have explored its atmosphere, its colors, and its unique characters. From 1870 to 1880, the circus inspired numerous creations from painters, sculptors, and poets who were enthusiastic about this popular spectacle, highly appreciated in Paris. Mayor of Tourrette-Levens for 36 years, Alain Frรจre, nicknamed “the doctor,” has been a great admirer of this universe since his childhood. Due to his love for the circus, many notable figures have gifted him exceptional objects, now revealed to the public. An art lover, he invites visitors to discover the paintings and drawings he has acquired throughout his life. Picasso, Chagall, Sacha Guitry, and Francisco de Goya, among many representations of the extraordinary world of the circus.
