In the context of the Overseas Year and strengthened by its connections to these territories, the City of Nice invites you to discover the authentic Creole culture at the stands of the Creole Village, which was set up in the Albert 1st Gardens from August 5 to 7, 2011.
Music, cuisine, spices, dance, jewelry, fashion, paintings—you will learn everything about Creole culture and lifestyle. Organized by the Mediterranean Caribbean Circle, this 7th edition of the Creole Festival promises to be richer than ever.
Throughout the workshops and exhibitions, you can taste acra and samoussa, learn Kréyol, explore dances from the Antilles and Guyana, create your own exotic lucky charm jewelry, adopt the Creole look, and discover Caribbean laughter yoga…
The Creole Festival also offers the promise of unforgettable encounters, with personalities such as the host Maxette Olsson, the Guyanese Touloulous, Guadeloupean artists Rony Théophile, Benzo, Karibana, and Kassica, designers Josiane Boulangé and N’Djamena, the Martiniquais bèlè player Edmond Mondésir, Creole flavor expert George Friederici, and many others!
Every evening, you will be treated to Creole rhythms:
– From 6:30 PM: a parade on the Promenade des Anglais and the pedestrian zone of Nice.
– From 9 PM to 10:30 PM: musical performances will take place at the Creole Village, with titles that may leave little to the imagination but offer much poetry and festivity: Friday “sa ké chofé,” Saturday “colé-séré,” and Sunday “difé-en-paille.”
