The Nice Town Hall has installed a device on Sainte-Hรฉlรจne beach to facilitate getting back up on the pebbles.ย
This Monday morning, July 17, on Sainte-Hรฉlรจne beach, a device was inaugurated to facilitate the return to the shore for swimmers. It is a help rope for exiting the water. This is already the fourth rope of its kind installed in Nice. Pleased with this initiative, local residents would like this solution to become permanent.
For Barbara Prot, municipal councilor and delegate for health prevention and education, the objective is โto bring to the water people who never go, who never enjoy our beautiful beachโ. The pebbles, which add charm to Nice, can be an obstacle when exiting the water.
โWe realized that many people from Nice are hesitant to swim and enjoy the Mediterranean because of our pebbles that sometimes roll underfoot, itโs unfortunate that this is an impediment.โ The rope offers a solid grip to allow a safe exit, under the supervision of lifeguards.
Four equipped beachesย
Now, four beaches in Nice are equipped with a rope. They include Centenaire, Blue Beach, Ponchettes, and Sainte-Hรฉlรจne. The Sainte-Hรฉlรจne project was proposed by the neighborhood committee to the town hall. Residents are pleased with this initiative and hope that other beaches in Nice will follow suit.
Despite the success of this initiative, local residents express their disappointment about its limited duration. Indeed, the assistance rope is planned to be in place for only two months. The residents and the neighborhood committee would like it to be maintained for a longer period.
โWe have very good relations with the town hall. They allowed us to have this rope. Normally, the rope is only here for two months, but we have asked to keep it in place longer,โ shares Patrick Lamole, president of the Bas Fabron Neighborhood Committee.
