The Grimaldi Forum is inaugurating its exhibition “The Forbidden City in Monaco.” The exhibition traces the history of the emperors and empresses of China. Rare and unique pieces are on display until September 10, 2017.
The collection consists of loans from around the world. Clothing, weapons, and large paintings depicting the emperors… An opportunity to learn more about the customs and habits of these dynasties over the centuries.
With a reconstruction of the throne room and temples, one might think they are in the Forbidden City. Some ceremonial robes are displayed, as well as astronomical instruments used by some emperors. Personal items such as hairpins, jewelry boxes, and imperial seals can also be found.
Having these objects in Monaco is a privilege, especially since after the exhibition, some will return directly to China and will not be seen again.
In October 2018, the Forbidden City will present an exhibition on the princes and princesses of Monaco.
