The city of Nice is thus the first municipality in the agglomeration to offer “service bikes” for its employees. A one-year agreement has been signed between the city and CANCA to provide 200 bicycles, which will allow staff to travel around the city center and annex city halls close to the main city hall on rue Hรดtel de ville.
“It’s a good idea and it’ll give me a bit of exercise. So, why not combine business with pleasure?” Andrรฉ, a municipal employee, has just taken possession of his new mode of transport. A gray city bike with handlebar gears and a metal basket, which will soon carry documents and various mail from the Nice City Hall.
“I’m very pleased to receive this bike, but I have a question: where will we park them around the main City Hall since there are almost no bike racks?” A keen analyzer of the situation, Chantal is also concerned about the design of her helmet, which, while not “yet” mandatory, is strongly recommended. In short, everyone leaves with their brand new bike as a back-to-school gift.
Other municipalities have shown interest in this initiative. Cagnes-sur-Mer and Saint-Laurent-du-Var should respectively benefit from 80 and 50 bikes in September. Saint-Jeannet, La Gaude, and Saint-Andrรฉ-de-la-Roche have also responded favorably.
After a certain Armstrong’s return to the Tour’s roads, hundreds of Nice municipal employees will be on the Nice roads and on a bike rather than in their car!
