In Nice, the traditional parade organized by the unions set off at 10 a.m. from Place Masséna to arrive at Place Garibaldi.

Public transport will not be in service.

In France, May 1st has been a paid public holiday since 1947. However, Labor Day traces its origins to a widespread strike by American workers in 1886.
The French May Day actually comes from the United States. Through a widespread strike that paralyzed a significant number of factories across the Atlantic, American workers demanded an 8-hour workday in 1886.
Three years after the riots, in 1889, the International Socialist Congress met in Paris and adopted May 1st as the “International Workers’ Day.”

Since then, the first day of May has remained the international day of wage demands and workers’ parades.

However, the designation “Labor Day” is a tradition and not an official name. Today, Labor Day is a public holiday in almost all European countries, with the exception of the Netherlands and Switzerland.
Elsewhere in the world, May 1st is also celebrated in Russia, Japan, South Africa, and Latin America. In the United States, where this tradition was born, “Labor Day” is celebrated on the first Monday in September.
