Very present in the paint and developing fast break play, the Niçoises quickly took the lead (7-0, 2nd minute).
But this good start was too easily undermined by a few defensive approximations, offering easy baskets to Charnay’s inside players (12-13, 6th minute). Barbara Cousin and then Laurence Cayot looked for outside solutions but initially without success…
It was through various opponent fouls that NBC 06 took control again (21-16, 8th minute), before a magnificent interception by Emilie Petiteau Silbande, followed by a successful basket, allowed Nice to end the first quarter victoriously (26-17)!
A margin that the Niçoises would build upon right from the start, with a three-pointer by Laurence Cayot. Sharp shooting, well-led by an on-form Emilie Petiteau Silbande acting as a dynamic force (31-17, 11th minute), the girls from Olga Tarasenko maintained the pressure. However, they were not immune to some poor choices or turnovers immediately benefiting Charnay (31-24), while Emilie Petiteau Silbande caught her breath on the bench…
Outside shooting
Faced with the height of the opponent’s inside players and to counter the zone defense, Nice relied, this time successfully, on outside shooting (46% in the first half against the visitors’ 22%). As a result, Barbara Cousin and her teammates could head to the locker rooms with a solid lead (47-31).
Even more inaccurate (38%) as Nice controlled their paint, the visitors failed to close the gap, except with a few free throws. Thus, NBC 06 comfortably sealed the third quarter, thanks to another long-range missile from Emilie Petiteau Silbande (64-43, 30th minute).
Olga Tarasenko rotates her team
On a stellar evening in terms of outside shooting (48%), the Azuréennes had another ten minutes to play. To manage. To maintain pressure on this increasingly struggling Charnay team, with Barbara Cousin adding another three-pointer (71-45, 33rd minute)…
Olga Tarasenko then chose to rest her starting five and rotate her roster to train the younger players! Charnay seized the opportunity to score a 9-0 run (80-67, 37th minute). But the game had been decided long before, and the NBC 06 girls just had to celebrate it (81-70)!
Olga Tarasenko: “We controlled the game well thanks to a good start. The primary goal was to close down the inside play and ensure rebounds, which we accomplished. This is an important victory that I hope will help us move out of the relegation zone. We are on the right track.”
NOTE that the next home game is scheduled for SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28 against the team from Charleville-Mézières, at 8 PM, VALROSE ARENA (next to the Faculty of Sciences).
