The Press Club 06 was forced to cancel the presentation evening of our Cรดte d’Azur media directory. We are sorry for the University of Nice Cรดte-dโAzur and all our partners. They, along with all the members of the club, will be informed when our directories are available.
The day we decided to cancel this evening, very few could have imagined such a rapid and explosive spread of the coronavirus. Now, no one can escape the media and economic grip of this pandemic. Fear, a poor advisor, grips a part of the population during these dark days.
The role of the media has not been this crucial since 1945. How to report on the health crisis while responding to the directive “Stay home” without giving in to the allure of emotional reporting and fostering a psychosis? This is the challenge facing all journalists.
In this chaotic context, it is appropriate to commend the remarkable fieldwork of the regional daily press, too often treated condescendingly in certain Parisian circles. The PQR demonstrates the strength of local information. Nice Matin, in particular, covers the pandemic with rigor and deploys all its resources.
On our side, in this issue of Intermed, we address the fundamental issues and ethical concerns posed by the coverage of this pandemic. The fight against fake news has been structured in most newsrooms, as evidenced by our “anti-fake news” press review.
And then we give the floor to colleagues. They share how they organize their work during these times of confinement. They recount their daily experiences. Some journalists have been affected by the illness. They tell of their days of suffering and then of joy. Of regaining a taste for life.
Paul Barelli, president of the Press Club 06
