World AIDS Day: “Getting to Zero AIDS!” Nice and the Alpes-Maritimes are committed!

A large gathering is organized at 6 PM – Place Garibaldi to participate in this key moment and illuminate a massive red ribbon,

The COREVIH Paca-Est, which coordinates all local actors working on prevention and patient support, reminds us that the unifying project “Objective AIDS Zero: Nice and the Alpes Maritimes commit!” will enable the fight to be strengthened in the coming months to help eradicate the epidemic.

The latest data published by the Health Surveillance Institute is unequivocal: the Alpes Maritimes department has the highest rate of new HIV diagnoses in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, with a rate of 124 per million inhabitants. This rate remains significantly higher than that of Paca (74) and that observed in mainland France outside the Ile-de-France (55 per million inhabitants).

The AIDS epidemic in our department is therefore a public health emergency that requires a comprehensive public response. Men who have sex with men, particularly the youngest among them, should be the focus of most efforts.

For Dr. Pascal Pugliese, President of COREVIH Paca-Est:
“It is also about triggering awareness that we can practically, if we choose, end AIDS. And that everyone, by adopting the right health practices and prevention methods, can contribute.
Our roadmap and objectives are clear. By 2020, we want 95% of people living with HIV to know their serological status, 95% of all people infected with HIV to receive treatment, and 95% of those treated to have a sustained undetectable viral load.
The target is set towards the horizon of 2030: zero new HIV infections, zero AIDS-related deaths, and zero discrimination against affected individuals.”
