As for the Australians, they first lost to Italy in their opening match (1-0), then they made a comeback against Brazil (3-2) before dominating Jamaica (4-1) to secure second place in the group, just ahead of Brazil. They owe their ranking to the number of goals scored (8), greatly aided by forward Samantha Kerr (currently the tournament’s co-top scorer with American Alex Morgan).
