World Cup: Sweden-Thailand in Nice this afternoon

Latest News

For the third match of the Women’s World Cup in Nice, Sweden and Thailand meet at the Allianz Riviera, on the occasion of the second day of Group F.

After their historic defeat in the opening match against the United States (13-0), the Thais are now playing for pride. Swept away by the formidable Team USA, their main objective is to score at least one goal to save their World Cup campaign. They have two matches left to achieve this, first against Sweden today, and then against Chile on Thursday.

Following the humiliating defeat, coach Nualphan Lamsam said that the players, the staff, and herself “would like to apologize to all their supporters, and thank them for their support”: “We faced one of the best teams in the world, but I didn’t expect us to lose by such a large margin.”

The Swedish team, on the other hand, is looking to secure their spot in the round of 16, after defeating Chile (2-0) in their first match. The Scandinavians, without Lotta Schelin since last year, will need a second victory as they will face the Americans on the third day of the group stage.

The match will start at 3 PM at the Nice stadium. There are still tickets available for those who wish to attend the match this afternoon.
