World Day Against Homophobia: Red Card to Homophobes

Latest News

The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia is held every year in reference to May 17, 1990, the date when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses.

More than 70 countries around the world penalize lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people with forced labor, imprisonment, torture, or the death penalty.

In France, in contexts related to daily lifeโ€”family, neighborhood, work, school environmentโ€”homophobic and transphobic hatred and violence are still rampant, showing how deeply LGBTphobias have infiltrated every aspect of our society.

As Nice prepares to host four Euro 2016 matches next month, the LGBT Cรดte d’Azur Center, which recently created its women’s football team, the first in Alpes-Maritimes, is organizing a training session this Tuesday at 6:30 PM at the Promenade du Paillon (at the Bourgada esplanade side) called “Let’s Play Football Against Homophobia.”

In fact, sports must assert themselves even more as a place of sharing and emulation, where respect for others and inclusion should prevail.

This football training in a popular and frequented area aims to raise public awareness and show a red card to homophobia!

Everyone is invited to come in sportswear (without cleats) to kick a few balls and participate in this fun and committed training session, cheered on by the people of Nice.
