On the occasion of National Diabetes Day, the collective of associations composed of AFD 06, Lider Diabète, La Maison du Diabète, Valentin Hauy, and Kididiabète organized their day of information, awareness, and screening, despite the terrible events of the previous day.
The goal of this day was to provide collective information about diabetes through conferences, stands, and numerous activities held at Garibaldi Square, the Garibaldi association house, and Saint-François pool.
At Garibaldi Square, five stands were active and animated by association activists available to provide all the information about diabetes and offer screening services. Nearly 2,000 people were eventually attended to by the 18 nurses present. Culinary workshops were also offered to children, playing with fruits to create the famous Pan Frucha by Franck Viano. Another drawing workshop allowed the little ones to let their artistic talents flow, while parents could learn everything about cardiac massage and defibrillation with the SDIS06 firefighters.
However, the atmosphere was also one of reflection, and no music or entertainment punctuated the day, just like the ceremony for awarding the City of Nice medal to the winner of the “Talents des Cités” national competition, which was postponed to a later date.
A day that was certainly sober but extremely useful for diabetics of all ages and also for the people who accompany them daily (spouses, parents, friends, teachers, coaches, etc.).
And finally, a big thank you to all the associations and their volunteers for the perfect organization of this event, which, no doubt, is the first of many to come.
