During the COVID-19 pandemic, many have been or are still forced to stay confined. Fortunately, digital platforms offer a great opportunity to act #ForNature.
Register your initiative to promote sustainability, whether it be a vegetable garden, an online lesson on biodiversity, a donation collection in your neighborhood, an online sermon on the wonders of nature, or any other idea, and it could be selected to appear on a global map that will soon be available.
On this occasion, the University of Cรดte dโAzurโwith the support of the City of Nice and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundationโlaunched the “Open Map of the Global Pause” project to create a living collective memory of the positive phenomena that have occurred around the world since the human pause imposed by Covid-19 began.
Open Map has already collected more than 355 pins from internet users worldwide who share phenomena seen on social networks, in the press, or witnessed directly. Contributions relate to natural phenomena, innovations, art and culture, solidarity initiatives, research, or even more unusual events. This map offers the world a collaborative testimony of the unparalleled period we are going through.
This map will continue to thrive beyond the confinement as it will allow for providing international educational awareness workshops, particularly for the young generation in Nice.
“Exploration paths can be created through the history of this planetary pause to raise awareness about the impact of human activity, but we can also continue to add to the common album of this period with young audiences while educating on fact-checking,” observes Samira Karrach, project manager at the University of Cรดte dโAzur, who adds, “We are finally working on a partnership with archival specialists to give a new dimension to this project.”
