The proclamation of the International Day of University Sport (IDUS) by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to be celebrated every September 20th, aims to reaffirm the importance that sport must have and maintain in universities and in the daily lives of students.
FISU* pays particular attention to ensuring the sustainability of quality sports facilities on university campuses available to all citizens.
This day will promote the values of sport and related policies by emphasizing ethics, the fight against doping, fair play, physical education, a healthy lifestyle, quality of life, quality physical education, gender equality, and social integration to ensure high-quality physical education.
The university sport community in Nice will fittingly celebrate this first edition at an emblematic location, the National Sports Museum at the Allianz Riviera.
David Huron, President of the Regional University Sports Committee, and Laurence Antimi-Loppin, Director, have organized conferences on various topics: the fight against doping, which is part of the legacy program established within the framework of the 2015 Summer Universiade, and the dual excellence or “dual career” path in university and sports.
The occasion also provides the opportunity to focus on the organization of university sport at its various international, national, and local levels.
A first edition that promises to be very interesting and that, in the years to come, will become part of the city’s sporting calendar.
