For her round of 16 match at the 250 tournament in Guangzhou, Diane Parry was up against Serbian Olga Danilovic. A match that was cut short for the French player.
A black Wednesday. Thatโs what Diane Parry experienced at the Guangzhou tournament in China. Facing the 23-year-old world number 86, Olga Danilovic, who just achieved her best ranking, there wasnโt much to be done. The Belgrade native was on a streak of six consecutive wins following her victory at the ITF in Cornellร last week, matches in which she hadnโt lost a single set. And it’s clear why.
She quickly took the lead, taking advantage of a slow start from the French player. With the break in hand, Olga Danilovic was barely troubled by the player from the Cรดte d’Azur. With only two break opportunities against her and seven for her opponent, it was difficult to make a comeback. Despite solid play, Diane Parry didnโt seem to have the tools against a player who seemed untouchable today. Two additional breaks later, the Serbian won the first set (6-1).
Diane Parry in trouble with her service
The second set was even quicker. Diane Parry lost all effectiveness with her serve. Not scoring a single point on her second serve, the French player was logically broken. Olga Danilovic’s very effective returns did the job. The player from Nice managed to trouble her opponent on her serve but small errors and possibly some frustration cost her the few opportunities to get back into the match. However, with only three points won on her service games, there was no way to hope for anything.
As a result, the match was over in 1h15 (6-1, 6-0). A pity for Diane Parry, who had shown a good level of play up to that point. The only consolation of the week, the French player will take the position of French number 1 on Monday. We might see the player from Nice next week in Jiujiang or Hong Kong, unless she decides to take a break until the Billie Jean King Cup in mid-November. Weโll find out next week.
