At the Osaka tournament in Japan, Diane Parry managed to reach the semi-finals. The Nice native overcame Clara Tauson in three sets.
The Japanese adventure continues for Diane Parry. After eliminating Erika Andreeva and Greet Minnen, the Nice native faced the young Dane Clara Tauson (21 years old, ranked 63rd in the world). Although they belong to the same generation, the two players had never faced each other before.
The beginning of the match was very balanced. Diane Parry showed great solidity behind her first serve, offering very few chances for Clara Tauson to create openings. The two players remained evenly matched until the end of the first set, which was ultimately won by the Nice native (6-3), thanks to a break secured at the end of the set.
Spurred into action, the Dane immediately reacted in the second set. More aggressive on the return, she achieved a break during the second game after a long battle of 20 points. Diane Parry could not delay the outcome. Despite a chance to break back, the player from the French Riviera ended up losing the second set (1-6).
In the final set, both opponents raised their service levels. They offered almost no break opportunities. But it was without counting on the tenacity of the player from the Maritime Alps, who, as in the first set, managed to secure two great opportunities. The end of the match was more challenging for Clara Tauson, who was visibly less agile.
Final score (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) in favor of Diane Parry, who will face the Dutch player Suzan Lamens tomorrow in the semi-final.
