During the seventh edition of the Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year Award 2018 dedicated to the theme “Women and Sport,” Yelena Isinbaeva, two-time Olympic Champion and three-time World Champion in pole vaulting, received an award for her commitment as a Champion for Peace with Peace and Sport.

The world record holder in pole vaulting was recognized for her exceptional commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and social cohesion. In 2009, Yelena joined Peace and Sport as a Champion for Peace. This club allows engaged athletes to use their fame and experience to serve projects that use sport to address social issues.

Her personal experience as a Champion for Peace led Yelena Isinbaeva to create her own Foundation in 2012 to assist underprivileged children by imparting the values of sport. The Foundation organizes remarkable events every year to celebrate “April6,” the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, led by Peace and Sport.

During the award ceremony, Yelena Isinbaeva said:
“I have long believed in the role sport can play in bringing people together. As a Champion for Peace, I can realize this belief and give it a more universal dimension.”
