Young Kart Challenge: In Search of the New King of the Wheel in Nice

Latest News

Do you have to be named Sébastien to become a motorsport champion? Not necessarily… You just need talent. Sébastien Loeb, WRC world rally champion, Sébastien Bourdais, Champ Car champion in the United States and Formula 1 driver, and Sébastien Ogier, junior WRC world rally champion, are all brimming with it. Today, they represent France across the globe, proudly raising the blue-white-red flag.

It is said that a champion emerges every ten years. We are fortunate to have at least three at the same time.

However, a new generation is needed. This is what the members of the French Federation of Motorsport are looking for. The azure city is thus one of the six stages of the “young kart” challenge.

This weekend, they are at the MIN in Nice, Gate B. The competition is open to all young people aged 14 to 22 years. The conditions are simple:

  • Not being licensed by the FFSA
  • Paying a one-day license fee of five Euros
  • Having parental authorization for minors

Four sessions are scheduled, two on Saturday and two on Sunday. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., young participants will compete in groups of three for five minutes. At the end of each session, 4% of the participants will qualify to compete in the final, on the Le Mans circuit, in February 2009.

Surrounded by professionals, they will take the wheel of electric karts as the focus is on ecology with the participation of EDF. We might discover new talent who will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors or those of Romain Grosjean, test driver at Renault F1 Team. We wish all these young people the best of luck.
