First location: the Stadium of Arboras and the Young Eagles Tournament organized by the OGC Nice Association. It took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Stadium of Arboras. 32 beginner teams, 20 youth teams with major clubs represented such as FC Nantes, Olympique de Marseille, Girondins de Bordeaux, AS Nancy Lorraine, Toulouse FC, AS Monaco, FC Metz, SC Bastia, and Montpellier Hรฉrault… It is always amusing and even endearing to see young players in shorts playing under the jerseys of major professional clubs. Thus we saw big matches: Nancy-Toulouse, Marseille-Bordeaux, or Cannes-Nice derbies with parents turning into supporters. On the honor board, were the Nice players of Cavigal among beginners and Montpellier among youths.
A few hectometers away, at the Gymnasiums of Eucalyptus and Dufy, the IV Heart Challenge took place. It gathered young handball players aged between 10 and 16. Many regional teams and guest honors: the handball players from Morteau (Doubs). Besides the high-level handball matches where we saw actions worthy of Karabatic, Guigou, or Gille, this tournament was marked by the visit of Didier Deschamps and the dynamic hosting by former referee and now Sports Deputy Gilles Veissiรจre.
Cavigal wrestling has just beautifully concluded a very eventful 2008-2009 year. After several titles, the club organized on Saturday, June 14, the first tournament of the city of Nice at the Valrose gymnasium with the participation of more than 150 young wrestlers from 15 sections spread across the city such as St Barthรฉlรฉmy, La Bornala, Auber, Bon Voyage, St Roch, Pasteur, Les Moulins, Nikaรฏa, Nice Flore… In a sporty and friendly atmosphere, these budding wrestlers were able to meet in matches held throughout the day. The club’s youth confirmed to their coaches and trainers all the progress made throughout the year, announcing the emergence of real talents for the future.
The various elected officials present were able to observe all the work accomplished by Cavigal, demonstrating how important sports supervision is when one knows all the values that it conveys. This tournament underscored the club’s desire to rise in power concerning the future French championship, indeed, Cavigal aims to compete with the French elite and to be part of it within 3 years. For these reasons, starting in September, Cavigal will organize joint training under the guidance of Muslim Saypoulaev in freestyle wrestling and Grigory Buliga in Greco-Roman wrestling, as well as educators Sofiane Gaieb and Jean Michel Deya. Frรฉdรฉric Le Calvez told us that “This work will enhance the training of our young wrestlers but also allow young people from Nice, who do not necessarily have the means, to access high-level practice.” For President Stรฉphane Panizzoli, “far from any presumptuous self-satisfaction, the results are exceptional, but we must continue our efforts to join the French elite. I want to thank my entire group as well as the elected officials for their presence, which has shown us their interest and support, and their presence encourages and motivates us to do even more for all these young people.”
