After the death of Jean-Claude Guibal, mayor of Menton since 1989, on October 25th, the municipal council had fifteen days to meet and elect a new mayor.
This election pitted the first deputy, Sandra Paire โ elected delegate for structuring urban developments, mobility, preservation of the living environment, environmental protection, and technical services โ against the second deputy Yves Juhel, who had notably served two terms alongside the former mayor.
Ultimately, Yves Juhel was elected this Tuesday afternoon, winning 18 votes, compared to 17 for his opponent.

Turn of events
Immediately after the election, Sandra Paire announced her resignation and was followed by the sixteen municipal councilors who had voted for her.
These resignations, representing more than a third of the assembly, might lead to a new election. Indeed, Article L122-8 of the General Code of Local Authorities stipulates that a new election must be held if the municipal council loses โa third or more of its members.โ In Menton, a third of the members corresponds to thirteen municipal councilors.
For the moment, nothing is yet certain for Yves Juhel.
