15 residents relocated after cracks appear in two buildings on Dabray Street in Nice

Two buildings on Rue Dabray, in the Libération district in Nice, have been evacuated following the appearance of cracks. Fifteen people have been relocated, with 13 placed in hotels.

Two residential buildings on Rue Dabray, in Nice, were evacuated during the night of Monday, August 10 to Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Cracks that appeared on the buildings led the city services to take precautionary measures.

Twelve apartments are affected. Fifteen residents had to leave their homes. Thirteen people were relocated to hotels and two were able to stay with family members.

Called to the scene Monday evening, the on-call engineer from the City of Nice conducted initial inspections. Access to the two buildings was then prohibited to ensure the safety of occupants and neighboring residents.

Present on site Tuesday morning, Nice’s mayor Éric Ciotti followed the situation with municipal services. Emergency shelter had initially been offered at a municipal facility, before temporary accommodation was put in place.

Neighboring construction site halted pending expert assessments

The two affected buildings are located in the immediate vicinity of a private construction site with deep foundations. Drilling operations are currently being carried out to establish the foundations for a new building.

Residents reported vibrations during the operations. According to the company, a construction site incident also occurred with concrete that allegedly escaped.

The City of Nice has requested the construction site to stop. At this stage, no causal link between the work and the cracks has been established with certainty. However, initial observations show an evolution of the cracks as the drilling operations progress.

Expert assessments must now determine the origin of the damage. In particular, the project owner’s technical studies office must analyze the events that occurred on the construction site and their possible impact on the buildings. The property managers of the two condominium associations must also be involved in the investigations.

The objective is to determine the nature, extent and evolution of the damage. Conclusions are expected within a maximum period of 15 days. This stage should make it possible to define any necessary reinforcement measures.

In the meantime, access to the two buildings remains secured and the construction site remains halted. Residents cannot return until safety conditions are met.

The relocation of the fifteen people could therefore continue for at least two more weeks. The City of Nice indicates that the conclusions of the expert assessments will be decisive before any decision concerning the return of occupants to their homes.
