Program
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15 at 8:30 PM
Mario, an emblematic figure of the neighborhood, will be the special guest of these intercultural evenings.
With his group “Flamenca,” he will lead us with the virtuoso chords of gypsy music.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 at 8:30 PM: CINEMA: EXILS by TONY GATLIF
With Romain Duris, Lubna Azabal, Leila Makhlouf, Habib Cheik, and Zouhir Gacem. One day, Zano proposes this somewhat crazy idea to his partner Naรฏma: to cross France and Spain to reach Algiers and finally know the land their parents once had to flee. Almost as a challenge, with music as their only luggage, these two children of exile set out on the road. In love with freedom, they let themselves be briefly entranced by the sensuality of Andalusia before deciding to cross the Mediterranean. From meeting to meeting, from techno rhythm to flamenco, Zano and Naรฏma retrace, in reverse, the path of exile. With, at the end of their journey, the promise of a re-conquest of themselves…
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17 at 3:00 PM: Tinning demonstration: CAL courtyard
Sasha ZANKO will offer us a demonstration of one of the most beautiful trades of the Rom Kalderash tradition, TINNING. It’s an ancestral trade, passed down from father to son, which involves coating food supports (copper dishes) with tin to prevent copper from mixing with cooked food.
5:30 PM: Atrium
Introduction workshops to flamenco with Sarah Beaudoin and traditional Occitan dances with Sylvie Boitard.
8:30 PM: THEATER PANTAI DโAQUI
With Aurรฉlie PEGLION and Emma LAURENT. Show written from contemporary Nice authors’ texts. Dream of an Italian revolutionary in love with freedom? Dream of an impudent washerwoman? Daydreams on the rocky paths of the hinterland? Terrifying dreams of Aunt Chiqueta? Dreams of a junkie from Vieux-Nice or a lasagna worshipper? Wrap yourself in our dreams, wave them to the four winds, smooth them with our fingers… Let yourself be carried away by this particular show: it will leave you pensive.
CONCERT ZINGARIA
Like all Sinti gypsies, YogaN, son of Lick Duboisโthe famous composer of the film “Le Gitan” music with Alain Delonโbegan music in his cradle, later obtaining a first prize in violin conservatory. A worthy heir of authentic gypsy musical culture, YogaN was sought by Rajasthani culture musicians in India at the age of 18. He charmed his audience and also seduced the great violinist Yehudi Menuhin. ZINGARIA, YogaN, and his musicians: it is the soul of a people expressing its joys and sorrows in their songs and music, seeking to rehabilitate its image in popular beliefs.
